How long does it take for the OnStar1 service to be set up?
After you press submit please allow up to 30-minutes for OnStar to set up your customer's account. You will need to press the blue OnStar button with your customer and speak to an Advisor in order to fully activate the OnStar service.
Where is the blue OnStar button located?
On most vehicles it is located on the rearview mirror.
What is the OnStar subscription price after the 3-month trial?
The Safe and Sound® Plan costs $18.95/month or $199/year. The Directions & Connections® Plan costs $28.90/month or $299/year.
What is included with the 3-Month Trial2?
3-Months of the OnStar Directions & Connections® Plan. This plan offers the same safety and security services as Safe & Sound, but also features OnStar's navigation and information services. Advisors can send unlimited turn-by-turn2, voice guided directions right to your vehicle, locate the nearest ATM or gas station, provide a business address or phone number — and more.
What if my customer was never pre-enrolled? Are they still eligible for the trial service?
Yes, any customer with a Model Year 2006 and newer GM pre-owned vehicles equipped with OnStar is eligible for a 1-time 3-month trial of OnStar service. It doesn't matter how long they've owned the vehicle. However, pre-enrollment is recommended for the best customer experience.
What happens after the trial?
Customers will be contacted about their subscription options by e-mail or direct mail as they approach the end of their trial period. If a customer decides not to continue their OnStar service, they will be notified as to when their service will be deactivated.
How should customers contact OnStar?
Simply press the blue OnStar button — a live Advisor is always available to assist them. Or call 1-888-4-ONSTAR (1-888-466-7827), Prompt 9, if you are outside of the vehicle.
Why aren't 2005 and older GM vehicles equipped with OnStar eligible for the 3-month trial?
OnStar only supports OnStar digital hardware that is usually only available in 2006 and newer vehicles. However, some other vehicles may be eligible for OnStar service. If the vehicle is a 2005 model year or earlier, click here for more information.
What do I do if I press the blue OnStar button and can't connect to OnStar?
If the light indicator (usually to the right of the buttons) shows red LED (blinking or solid), or will not illuminate, there is a problem with the vehicle's OnStar system. The hardware will need to be serviced by a GM dealership.
What if the light indicator is green but still won't connect to OnStar?
